Rather than working from set menus, we meet with our clients to determine what they like, what they think their guests will like, and, together, create a unique menu. ZACK SKLAR
CHEF/OWNER After graduating from the prestigious Culinary institute of America, Zack and some friends began catering dinner parties in and around the Hudson Valley in New York. Word spread fast and soon they were booking events from small dinner parties to parties for over 250 guests. After a visit home, Zack realized that his hometown market didn't have the culinary options he knew he could provide. So he moved his young catering operation to Michigan and began to build Cutting Edge Cuisine. Zack's culinary expertise and taste level permeates every aspect of his business. From the food to the service, table settings, lighting and more, he ensures that every event runs smoothly, comes together seamlessly and overachieves the client's vision. Truly one of America's hottest young chefs, Zack has what it takes to turn the usual into something deliciously unusual.
AARON LOWEN
DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS With an eye for details and a keen understanding of event preparation and logistics, Aaron has the perfect combination of skills to help ensure that all Cutting Edge Cuisine events run smoothly. Aaron is an alumnus of The Culinary Institute of America and has worked at the renowned Townsend Hotel and The Rugby Grill as well as some of the countries hottest restaurants. Aaron has returned to metro-Detroit and to Cutting Edge Cuisine as the Director of Operations and Logistics. He works in event preparation as well as in the kitchen to ensure that every detail is covered.
JUSTIN KURTZ
PASTRY CHEF Cutting Edge's reputation for outstanding pastries is due in large to Justin. A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, Justin studied under one of America's most revered pastry chefs; Francisco Migoya, from the French Laundry and Bouchon Bakery. Justin lives and breathes pastry. From elaborately decorated wedding cakes to simple pastry, Kurtz's attention to detail and creative flair are infused in everything he bakes.
JENNIFER EALOVEGA
DIRECTOR OF CATERING
After receiving a Culinary Degree from Schoolcraft College, Jennifer went on to work as an Event Planner and Catering Director for companies such as Katherine’s Catering & Special Events in Ann Arbor, Plum Hollow Country Club in Southfield and most recently at The Village Club in Bloomfield Hills. Jennifer is responsible for working with each and every client to help create their “dream event” and making sure that every last detail is included.

CAN YOU HELP ME FIND A VENUE? WHAT ARE YOUR MENU "PACKAGES"? DO YOU OFFER TASTINGS?
Of course! We are listed as a “Preferred Caterer” with many event venues of all types and sizes. We would be happy to help you select the perfect venue for your event. I HAVE GUESTS WITH DIETARY RESTRICTIONS. CAN YOU HELP? Absolutely! We are happy to make suggestions for any dietary need including gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian and vegan. Looking for a kosher meal? Although we are not a kosher caterer we are happy to arrange for a meal to be provided by a kosher company. HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE TO CATER AN EVENT? There are many variables involved with full service catering: number of guests, type of event, style of service, number of wait staff required, the event venue, rental items required, etc. During our initial meeting with you we will discuss several different options and price points. Once we know where your comfort level is we will work a menu into your budget. WHERE DO YOU CATER? We cater wherever your event is taking place! We’ve catered all over the metro Detroit area, Ann Arbor, Lansing and Grand Rapids. You let us know where your party is and we’ll be there!
We want you to have an event menu that is made especially for you! Cutting Edge Cuisine prides itself in being a caterer that customizes menus based on our client’s tastes and preferences. Menu options are endless! Rather than picking “package A, B or C”, we meet with you and discuss food items that you like, don’t like, the budget you are working with as well as any dietary concerns that you may have. From there we work on a customized menu just for you. DO I PROVIDE THE ALCOHOL FOR THE BAR? You are more than welcome to provide the alcoholic beverages for your event (does not apply to Temple Beth El or Temple Shir Shalom events). However, we are here to help take the load off and would be happy to arrange this for you. As one of the few caterers in town that has a catering liquor license, we order directly from the State of Michigan which allows for any unopened bottles of liquor and wine to be returned. Your total consumption charges are billed after the event. Should you decide to still provide your own alcohol, we are happy to provide a full bar set up including mixers, ice and soft drinks as well as bar tending services.
We are happy to offer a complimentary tasting. Tastings are scheduled once a menu concept is developed and you feel your menu is near the final stages of completion. Menu tasting items are to be selected from your proposal and used as a tool to help with items that you may still have questions regarding their flavor profile, style and presentation. Complimentary tastings include two appetizers, two salads, two entrées and two dessert selections from your proposed menu. Additional charges will apply for added selections. In the event that you are requesting a tasting before a proposal is provided we recommend visiting one of our restaurants (Social Kitchen & Bar – Birmingham, MEX – Bloomfield Hills, Beau’s Grillery – Bloomfield Hills). Although our menus are not the same, all of our restaurants are a great representation of our style and presentation. DO I ARRANGE FOR MY OWN RENTAL ITEMS? As a full service catering company we are happy to make these arrangements for you. Should you require a tent, tables, chairs or any other rental item that will help make your event a success, we work with several outstanding rental companies that will be happy to provide whatever is needed. If you decide to take care of these items on your own, we are happy to assist with suggestions regarding sizes and quantity.
